IELTS (General Training)

IELTS Training Modules

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System

IELTS Listening Module Format

The listening module consists of four sections with

  1. Each of them has ten questions.
  2. For each section, a tape will be played, which you must listen to carefully.
  3. The recordings will include questions based on discussions of a variety of subjects by native speakers.
  4. You must accurately answer each question without missing any, and the most common question kinds are multiple choice, fill in the blanks, and complete the flow chart/map.

For both General Training and Academic Training, the listening module format is the same. With an additional 10 minutes to transmit your answers to the answer sheet, this module should take about 30 minutes to complete.

IELTS Reading Module Format

In contrast to the hearing module, the reading module comprises three sections,

  1. Each containing forty questions that are almost evenly distributed among them.
  2. Its purpose is to evaluate your reading comprehension across a range of skills.
  3. It has several question formats, including multiple choice, true/false, and not given. Complete the gaps, Finish the sentence. Provide headings (Yes, No, Not given) for each paragraph in the text.
  4. You would need to read quickly to grasp the major ideas of each section, concentrate on the writers’ viewpoints and arguments, and attempt to grasp their point of view.

There are differences in the structure of the Reading modules for Academic and General Instruction. Compared to General training, the Academic training has a far higher degree of linguistic complexity. The question kinds are the same for both, though. The reading module lasts for sixty minutes.

IELTS Writing Module Format

The IELTS writing module comprises of two tasks.

  1. Task 1 : In 20 minutes, you must produce a summary of at least 150 words about visual data or information in the form of a process diagram, pie chart, bar graph, table, or a combination of any three of the aforementioned formats for academic training.
  2. You must use appropriate terminology to highlight the unique aspects of the data while drawing comparisons and pointing out any inconsistencies.
  3. Bring the assignment to a clear end.
  4. Task 1 : In 20 minutes, you must write 150 words in a formal, semi-formal, or informal letter as part of general training.
  5. The letter needs to be written in three paragraphs: an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
  6. The language or lexical resource used must be appropriate for the letter’s intended use.
  7. Task 2 : Is the same for both training modalities.
  8. The assignment is to write an essay that is at least 250 words long.
  9. Forty minutes are the given time for this activity.
  10. A wide number of subjects are addressed under essay writing, including general interests, science, and education.
  11. It is strongly advised that you use connecting terms and terminology related to the issue to cohesively connect your ideas.

IELTS Speaking Module Format

There are three sections to the IELTS speaking module, and it is recorded.

  1. This module evaluates your spoken English proficiency in a number of areas, including intonation, pronunciation, linguistic fluency, and others. It takes approximately 11–14 minutes to complete.
  2. You must introduce yourself to the examiner in the first section.
  3. You will receive a cue card in the second section that will include three subtopics on which you must speak for one to two minutes.
  4. The final section will focus on a discussion between you and your examiner regarding the topic of the cue card. Here, you will be questioned by your examiner, and you will respond appropriately.
